26 January, 4:30pm
Free online Talk / Streamed live on YouTube and Facebook
The Ryedale Hoard is a new and interesting group of objects from Yorkshire buried in the 2nd century AD. The reasons for their burial remain a mystery, but one possible explanation is that they were buried as part of a magical ritual.
Adam Parker is a researcher on the materiality of ancient magic. He is a PhD graduate from the Open University and Associate Collections Curator at York Museums Trust. In this talk he will draw on his expertise to situate the Ryedale Hoard in the context of wider Romano-British ritual evidence as well as ancient magical practices generally.
