York Castle Museum is housed in buildings originally built as prisons for both debtors and felons. Its most famous inmate was highwayman Dick Turpin, who spent his last days here before being executed in 1739 for horse theft.

Vespertine #05 – Wed 28 Oct 2015

Venue: York Castle Museum

A unique opportunity to spend some time in the depths of the Castle Museum.

Pilot theatre invite you to follow the stories of characters drawn from myth and reality, past and present; on their journeys connecting to the prison cells.

There will be family workshops and artistic responses inspired by graffiti and poetry taken from the prison cell walls. VESP#05 will be part of this year’s Illuminating York. Food will also be provided to fuel hungry festival-goers.
