October Half Term 2018

York Castle Museum

Private Wood from Pocklington is waiting to enlist you in the Army. Are you ready to travel with him and leave England behind?

Find out about his story and how tough daily life was for one of our own troops on the Western Front.

Become a Tommy in the Trenches, build your own trench and find out about muddy funk holes under the command of Private Wood.

Report for duty on the 1914: When the World Changed Forever gallery.

This activity takes place between 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm and is included with your museum admission. There’s no need to book.

For our admission prices, please see our visitor information page.

Yorkshire Museum

Meet the Big Bad Wolf at the Yorkshire Museum this October Half Term!

Take a trail around the museum as we look at some age-old myths about wolves, like werewolves and shapeshifters.

Then, if you dare, meet the Big Bad Wolf himself!

After that, take part in our very important debate about whether wolves should be brought back into the wild in Britain:

  • Look at the reasons for and against
  • Know your facts from your fiction as you use the information around the room to help you make a decision
  • Take a vote in our ballot box, share your views on our ‘view point wall’ and make your own badge or banner to take home

Meanwhile, under fives can enjoy traditional stories such as Little Red Riding Hood, Three Little Pigs, and The Boy Who Cried Wolf.

We’ll also have lots of fun activities to do like reading story books, using puppets and dressing up.

This activity takes place between 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm and is included with your museum admission. There’s no need to book.

For our admission prices, please see our visitor information page.

York Art Gallery

Draw a Dream

Be inspired by The BFG in Pictures and Roald Dahl’s imaginative descriptions of dreams to paint your own dream.

Use watercolours to make your dream: all in our magical BFG cave.

This activity takes place between 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm and is included with your gallery admission. There’s no need to book.

Art Rocks!

Rocks decorated with pictures, colours and messages are being hidden to spread happiness to their finders. These rocks have started to reappear around the world and be passed on for the next person to discover.

Decorate your own rock with creative pictures, colours and messages. Once you’ve decorated it, make someone smile by hiding your rock in our Artists Garden.

This activity takes place Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 November between 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm and is included with your gallery admission. There’s no need to book, but please note that places are limited.
