York Residents
If you are a York Resident you will be able to continue to bring your children into the museums and gallery free of charge with your child’s My YMT Card. This will be issued directly through York Schools to everyone under 16. If, for some reason, your child isn’t issued with a card or your child is home educated, you can simply bring proof of address the next time you visit any of our sites and we will issue you with one.
For those who live outside York
When you come to renew or purchase your membership, you will be given the option of the YMT Plus Membership which will allow the YMT Cardholder the extra benefit of admission of 4 children for FREE.
How this will work:
If you already have your YMT Card
If you bought or renewed your YMT Card before the 23rd September 2019, you can still bring up to 4 children for FREE each time you visit, these changes won’t affect you until you come to renew your YMT Card.
What if another family member wants to take the children?
All YMT Cards are non-transferable, if the named cardholder is not present then children will be charged the normal child admission price or the accompanying adult will be able to upgrade their YMT Card to a Plus Membership.
Why are you introducing these charges and where will the extra money go?
York Museums Trust is a charity which looks after collections and buildings owned by City of York Council. It is our ambition to bring world class exhibitions and events to our award winning attractions and the city of York, for both residents and visitors to enjoy while remaining financially stable. Every penny we receive is used to help us achieve these goals and without the fantastic support of people like you this would not be possible. The introduction of these new charges have been necessary as visitor income becomes increasingly important to allow us to succeed in a competitive and difficult financial environment.
We would like to thank you for your support so far and we hope you will still find the YMT Card excellent value for money. We look forward to welcoming you in the future to see some of our fantastic events and exhibitions this year and beyond.
