- Description
- Facial sherd of a face pot (face urn). Stylised female face depicted with moulded bulbous eyes, a large triangular nose, and small incised lips. The hair is pulled away in a central parting, depicted through incised lines. Face urns of this type appear chronologically earlier than the head pots and realistic examples of the 3rd and 4th centuries. The size of the face is indicative of a small urn or jar. Material is a buff, dark-yellow, sandy fabric.
