- Description
- Decade ring with ten lobes around the ring, and and oval bezel with a depiction of the crucifixion on a textured background. Two kneeling figures either side of the cross are probably the Virgin Mary on the left, and St John the Evangelist on the right. The worn shape at the top of the cross could be either the Holy Spirit in the form of a bird, or an inscription such as INRI. Decade rings were used in the same way as a rosary, with a 'Hail Mary' (Ave Maria) prayer said for each of the lobes, and an 'Our Father' (Paternoster) for the bezel. Small find. 17th - 19th century [?].
