Join us for family-friendly activities across all sites for February half term 2018 including Viking crafts, votes for women, and a celebration of female artists.

Yorkshire Museum

Modelling the Vikings!
Daily 10 – 18 February, 11am – 1pm and 2 – 4pm
As part of the Jorvik Viking Festival, come along and create your own Viking peg doll. With a variety of materials on offer, you can re-use and re-cycle your way to creating a model masterpiece!

Kids Curators Talk
13 February, 12.30-1pm
Jorvik Life – A short talk aimed at families with children over 5 years old.

Museum Monkeys –Vikings
Daily 10 – 18 February, 11am – 1pm and 2 – 4pm
Discover what we have to offer for under 5s in our drop in Museum Monkeys sessions. Dress as a Viking, play Viking games and make a cardboard Viking long boat model. Free (museum admission applies), no need to book.

Viking Museum Trail
Daily 10 – 25 February, 50p per trail
Take a trail around the museum and see if you can spot our seven Viking characters to find the missing letters that spell a Viking word. Hand it in to our Visitor Experience team for your reward and to be entered in our prize draw!

 

York Castle Museum

Votes For Women!
Daily 10 – 18 February, 10am – 4pm
Discover the history of the fight for women’s right to vote at the museum this half term. Put on a sash (or opt for a policeman’s helmet!) and join our Suffragette on Kirkgate, the museum’s Victorian Street. March with placards, demonstrate, and protest for your cause. Be careful you don’t get arrested by the Policeman and locked up in our cell!

Create at the Castle
Daily 10 – 18 February, 10am – 4pm
Deeds not words! Self-led Suffragette-themed family arts and crafts activities, creating at the Castle.

100 Years of Women’s Work
Daily 10 – 18 February, 11am – 1pm and 2 – 4pm
Win the War cookery. Celebrate the working lives of women during the First World War. Watch demos of WW1 recipes and perhaps have a taste!

 

York Art Gallery

Women Artists Trail
Daily 10 – 25 February
Follow a trail to find works of art by leading female artists to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage. Look at the different styles and materials to create your own artwork in our Studio and add to our collage inspired by Hua De Tu An, Flower Pictures II by Felicity Aylieff.

 

All activities are included in admission unless stated otherwise. No need to book.
