- Description
- Variant of the so called 'Gothic Hilt' sword. With later pattern curved backsword blade with deep fullers either face of the blade. Cast copper alloy basket hilt with outer guard of bars with a cartouche showing VR cypher under a crown, with rigid inner guard. There is a small rivet through the guard where the quillon emerges. Etched with the maker's name "BUCKMASTER NEW BURLINGTON STREET LONDON". With late pattern brown leather covered, wooden scabbard with nickel plated mounts, has a frog retaining billet strap, this 1899 pattern scabbard is incorrect for ths pattern of sword. Has a white leather sword knot with woven 'fir cone' shaped terminal.
