Description
Eboracum records this as "Tombstone of gritstone, 1ft 4 ins by 4ft 6ins, by 1ft. It appears to have been cut out of a rounded pillar of stone, the base being left round in order to fix the tombstone firmly in the ground. The gabled head conatins an elaborate rosette in the tympanum; the inscription below is in a sunk and moulded panel. HYLLO ALVMNO CARISSIMO ..........VI 'To Hyllus dearest foster-child....'. There are indications that a fifth line of lettering formerly existed."
