Description
Figure of a blacksmith carved in relief. Described in Eboracum as "Tombstone of gritstone, 1ft 7ins, by 3ft 5ins, by 6 and1/2 ins. In an arched niche, with an architectural gabled frame, stands a smith, his left shoulder draped, his right bare, wearing an apron round his loins over a tunic. His left hand holds an object on an anvil with tongs, while his right forges it with a hammer. In the spandrels of the arch are scrolls, and at its head a goblet flanked by two rosettes."
