The Return of York Art Walks – by Fiona Green, Collections Facilitator for Art
York Art Walks were initiated by York Art Gallery in 2009 and ran for four years. They were designed to encourage residents and visitors to see some of the lesser-known galleries and artists’ studios in the city. Usually three venues are visited on each occasion, with a short walk between them.
In association with York Art Map Galleries, York Art Gallery and Kentmere House Gallery is arranging the first of the new series on Monday 26 September 2016. The evening will begin at potter Ben Arnup’s studio in Love Lane, followed by Loretta Braganza’s studio in Mount Vale, finishing at Kentmere House Gallery in Scarcroft Hill.
Both Loretta and Ben have work in York Art Gallery’s collection and Kentmere House shows work by many artists who feature in the collection, including painter Jake Attree, printmaker the late John Brunsden and potters Richard Batterham and Jim Robison.
Ben creates ceramics which toy with illusion, whereas Loretta’s distinctive ceramic comprises taut edges, clear lines and complex mark making. The locations for the three stops are listed below:
- Ben Arnup – The Cottage, Love Lane, The Mount, YO24 1FE
- Loretta Braganza 198 Mount Vale YO24 1DL
- Kentmere House Gallery 53 Scarcoft Hill, YO24 1DF
Parking is available in Driffield Terrace, Scarcroft Hill or Albemarle Road.
