Waking the Dead: A Walk through the Cemeteries of Roman York – Fri 3 Jun 2016

This walk will look for evidence for how and where the Romans buried their dead in, or rather outside, Eboracum, looking at Roman burial practices and what this tells us about the way the Romans thought about death and the afterlife. The walk will include a number of the most interesting and important Roman cemeteries and reflect on the locations, the evidence recovered from each place and what it tells us about the topography of Roman York (Eboracum). With John Oxley (City Archaeologist, City of York Council).

This event is part of the Eboracum Roman Festival.

The walk will start in Exhibition Square and end at Blossom Street.

£6 / £5 concessions.

Tickets available online from www.visityork.org, in person from the York Visitor Information Centre, Museum Street, York YO1 7DT, or by phone: 01904 550099 (NB: For tickets sent by post there will be an additional postage charge).
