Rowntree’s Theatrical Performances

As part of our new chocolate experience, Chocolate: York’s Sweet Past, York Castle Museum and the Rowntree Society have been looking at the history of the Rowntree family. Lawrence, the grandson of Joseph Rowntree, died in the Battle of Passchendaele which started 100 years ago on July 31 1917.

To commemorate the anniversary of the battle actors Rebecca Beattie or Charlotte Wood will provide performances of the life of Lawrence Rowntree using extracts from his journal.

Performances will take place in 1914: When the World Changed Forever exhibition at York Castle Museum daily from 27 July to 2 August at the following times: 11.00am, 12.00pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm.
