Friends of York Art Gallery: Artists & Collectors at Home – A Visit to Kettle’s Yard, Charleston and Farley Farmhouse – Wed 3 Jun 2015

Pick-up and drop-off at Memorial Gardens, York.

Arrive at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, in time for a private visit. This was the home of Curator and collector Jim Edie, who was a friend to many emerging British artists of the 30’s, and his unparalleled collection remains as it was during his residence.

You will also visit the adjoining gallery before continuing to Lewes, Sussex, where you will spend two nights at the White Hart Hotel on a dinner/bed and breakfast basis.

On Thursday it will be a short drive to Charleston, the now legendary home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. There will be an introductory talk by a Curator, followed by guided tours, with time to enjoy the deightful garden. After lunch, visit Farley Farm, home of the outstanding WW1 photographer Lee Miller and her husband Roland Penrose, the surrealist painter and collector.

Before returning, spend time at either of the Tower Gallery, Eastbourne, or Pallant House Gallery, Chichester (depending on the exhibitions available).
