York Castle Museum needs your support!
As you may know, this year we received the unfortunate news that RAAC had been discovered in the roof of York Castle Museum. As we are committed to offering a safe and enjoyable space for our visitors and staff, the decision was taken to close this side of the Museum, which includes Kirkgate, our iconic Victorian street.
York Castle Museum attracts people of all ages and has been a visitor favourite for many years. Its closure, combined with the cost of repairs, has had a devastating effect. We have seen a 40% drop in visitors to the Museum and we need your support now more than ever to recover.
We are now in a position where we can reopen Kirkgate and our period rooms in time for Christmas. However, mitigating work is ongoing in other areas of the museum and the situation has had a significant impact on York Museums Trust; which also cares for York Art Gallery, the Yorkshire Museum and York Museum Gardens.
We are launching an urgent appeal to help support the trust at this critical time. Whatever you can give will help us to continue our journey to share our historic collections, gardens and buildings with future generations.
