Weddings that will go down in History!

Couples can now enjoy a truly historic wedding at York Castle Museum which has just been granted a wedding licence for the first ever evening ceremonies in Yorkshire.

The romantic Victorian cobbled street of Kirkgate offers a spectacular setting for those looking for an ideal vintage or unusual ceremony that is surrounded by history.

And a new licensing law means that the museum is the first venue in the county to offer couples the chance to tie the knot in the evening.

Jennifer Chadwick, Wedding and Events Manager said:

“We are often approached by couples who are looking for a wedding ceremony with a difference and York Castle Museum is certainly that.
The venue itself is beautiful, particularly for those looking for a vintage feel, but the fact that we will be the only venue to hold evening weddings in the whole of Yorkshire will make it even more special.

“We can’t wait to hold out first evening ceremony under the new law.”

In celebration of their newly acquired licence, York Venues will be holding their next Wedding Fair at York Castle Museum on Thursday September 4th from 6.30pm-9.30pm, in partnership with event planners, Kiss the Bride. This will be a special free evening event that will include a glass of wine on arrival and a selection of canapés.

York Venues’ wedding fairs are amongst the most highly regarded in the UK, with top quality suppliers providing all of the best products and wedding ideas you could need to create the perfect wedding day.

York Venues has seen a record number of weddings booked at their original wedding venue – the Hospitium in the York Museum Gardens, with 98 currently booked between April 2014 and April 2015.

All profit from weddings taking place at both venues is used to look after the collections, buildings and gardens run by York Museums Trust – York Art Gallery, York Castle Museum, York St Mary’s and the Yorkshire Museum and Gardens.
