Description
Silver gilt dress hook. Post-medieval silver-gilt dress pin of trefoil form applied with three hemispherical bosses. The bosses are decorated with filigree decoration and knops. Hole at centre of trefoil-shaped backplate indicates that there was originally a separate flower-head element on the front, attached to the backplate with a butterfly clip, as seen in Dora Thornton and David Mitchell, 'Three silver Tudor dress-hooks', The Antiquaries Journal 83 2003, p. 490 for similar hook with maker’s mark from Petersfield, Hampshire. Front is gilded.
