What York Museums Trust sites are affected by the new national restrictions? 

York Castle Museum and York Art Gallery will be temporarily closed from 4pm on Wednesday November 4


Are York Museum Gardens Open? 

The Trust can confirm we will be keeping York Museum Gardens open for visitors to explore and enjoy, from 10:30am to 6pm seven days a week. People can visit the Gardens with members of their household or support bubble or meet one person who is not in their household or support bubble


When will you reopen the Museums? 

We hope that we will be able to reopen both sites in early December but we will continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks and follow any new Government guidance.

The Yorkshire Museum will also remain closed. 


I have booked tickets with you for a time between November 5 and December 2, can I have a refund? 

The majority of our income comes from ticket and membership sales and closing for a second national lockdown will have a yet a further negative impact on our sustainability. For anyone who has booked tickets for this period, we would be extremely grateful if you would consider making this a donation, if your circumstances allow. 

If you would like to claim a refund, please email [email protected] or [email protected] with your booking reference number along with the date and time of your booking, email you booked with and surname. Our teams are currently working on closing our sites for the new restrictions, so we will begin to process refunds from November 9.  Please note, refunds can take up to 7-10 days to be paid into your account. 


I have made a booking for after December 2, can I have a refund?   

We hope to be able to still open in early December so you will be able to enjoy your visit with us. For this reason we are not offering refunds beyond December 2 at this moment, but please check our website and social media for updates.  


I want to book tickets for after December 2, can I do this? 

We hope that we will be able to reopen both sites in early December but because of the fast-changing situation, we have made the decision to close all future bookings temporarily. We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks, please check our website and social media for updates. 


Can I transfer my ticket to another date? 

We are currently unable to transfer tickets to a new date as we have closed all future bookings temporarily while the situation for December becomes clearer. We can refund your tickets and you can re book for another time slot when tickets are available again.
