Seated half-length figure facing right; on the right a pile of armour silhouetted against a bright sky; a ray of light descends above it with the inscription 'HINC ILLA' ('Hence those things', i.e. the armour was used in God's name). Behind the sitter a red curtain is draped; in the top left corner the family crest (lion passant regardant sable; supporters, dexter, a lion guardant sable; sinister, a bay horse proper. Motto, 'FARE FAC').
