The Wold Newton Hoard

Dates: Wednesday 31 August 2016–Friday 7 October 2016, 12:00 pm - 12:15 pm

The Wold Newton Hoard contains over 1,800 Roman coins and was discovered by a metal detectorist near the village of Wold Newton, East Yorkshire, in 2014. The hoard dates to 307AD, a period of great uncertainty in the Roman Empire and Yorkshire. It features coins depicting Constantius and also the first coins to proclaim his son, Constantine, Augustus after he was made emperor in York.

Hear about the importance of this rare Roman hoard with special talks from Yorkshire Museum guides. Talks are free starting at 12pm every day and there’s no need to book.
