York Castle Museum is housed in buildings originally built as prisons for both debtors and felons. Its most famous inmate was highwayman Dick Turpin, who spent his last days here before being executed in 1739 for horse theft.

Have a go at making your own tricorn highwayman’s hat. This is a self-led craft activity for families.

York Castle Museum is housed in buildings originally built as prisons for both debtors and felons. Its most famous inmate was highwayman Dick Turpin, who spent his last days here before being executed in 1739 for horse theft.

Discover Highwayman’s Heist! – A special family trail around the museum, discovering both the truth and myths of Dick Turpin’s life as a highwayman. Complete the trail activities to join Dick’s criminal gang.
