York Castle Museum Supports the Vote For Women!

Fight for women’s right to vote at York Castle Museum this February half term!

Pick up a placard, slip on a sash and set about the Victorian street of Kirkgate at the museum to protest for the cause and learn about the history of the fight for women’s right to vote. But watch out for that policeman!

Lisa Coombs, Assistant Curator of Social History (Informal Learning) at York Museums Trust, said:

“We wanted to show people the struggles faced by the Suffragettes in the build up to the First World War.

“The work that they did had a huge impact on the world we live in today and we want people to take to Kirkgate in support of the cause!”

“You can even have a go at making your own iconic suffragette badge to show your support for women’s right to vote.”
