V&A Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear
7 July 2016, 7pm – 8:30pm

As part of the Shaping the Body exhibition at York Castle Museum, you are invited to enjoy a talk from Susanna Cordner, from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, fresh from the launch of their new exhibition Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear.

On Thursday 7th July, 7pm – 8:30pm, Susanna, originally from York, will be looking at the evolution of underwear from 1750 onwards and discussing the fascinating relationship between fashion, underwear and body shape.

Ali Bodley, Senior Curator at York Castle Museum, said:

“It is fantastic that Susanna Cordner from the V&A is able to join us at York Castle Museum to share her knowledge of the remarkable history of underwear.

“We hope that you can come along for an extraordinary evening where we will be looking at underwear from the past with examples from the V&A and York Museums Trust collections whilst enjoying a glass of wine!”

Named after the Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, the V&A museum is the world’s largest museum of decorative arts and design, with a permanent collection of over 4.5 million objects. Their exhibition Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear opened in April with the biggest exhibition of underwear ever to go on display.

Tickets for Susanna’s talk V&A Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear are £15 and can be booked online here.
